PennSSI and Millersville University are excited to provide additional opportunities to gain a Certificate in School Safety Preparedness. A summer and fall cohort will be conducted, each with 24 seats available, for this opportunity at a cost of $925. Over the course of five sessions, participants will learn how to assess and address various natural and man-made disasters. By the conclusion of this course, learners will be able to:   

• Define the basic concepts of disaster preparedness, including preparedness, response, mitigation and recovery.
• Navigate and discuss actions to take in an active shooter event, both inside the school and outside the school, to keep students and staff safe.
• Understand the proper steps to take for various medical emergencies.
• Define the types of natural and man-made disasters that may occur and impact the community.
• Identify your community’s and entity’s stakeholders and means to properly communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify issues of mental health and techniques for dealing with mental health issues in their school. 
• Develop a plan for addressing various potential emergency and non-emergency situations within their schools. 
• Develop a reunification plan and demonstrate proper reunification techniques.
• Acknowledge and demonstrate proper personal mental health awareness.
